Building Community Cohesion to Reduce Violence

The Chicago Fund for Safe and Peaceful Communities (SPC) was created in response to spikes in violence associated with long weekends and warm months. Several major local foundations, including The Chicago Community Trust, the Joyce Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Polk Bros. Foundation, the Woods Fund Chicago and others, came together to address this problem with a rapid response funding mechanism.

The fund partnered with BECOME Center for Community Engagement and Social Change to identify the promising strategies for creating safe and peaceful communities and provide guidance on scaling those strategies to further implementation outlined in this report.
